Liver cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer death globally and although it is less common in the United States, both the number of new cases and the number of people dying from liver cancer are increasing in this country. Get Covered Illinois (GCI) Year 1 enrollment efforts included 217,000 people enrolled in a plan through the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace, an an additional enrollment of approximately 405,000 people to date in Medicaid under the ACA. Asian Health Coalition was one of 44 lead organizations involved in GCI to educate and enrolled the uninsured in Illinois. To read a copy of the GCI annual report click here.
The Action for Health Justice (AHJ), released a national report detailing many of the serious gaps in resources at federal and state levels during the first Open Enrollment Period. Despite these gaps, the report captures practices and strategies used by its 70 community-based partners in 22 states that reached over 600,000 Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders during this period. As a further demonstration of its commitment to health, CVS Health also announced the end of tobacco sales at CVS/pharmacy as of September 3, nearly a month ahead of the previously targeted date of October 1. In February, the company announced that it would end the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at its CVS/pharmacy stores, making CVS/pharmacy the first and only national pharmacy chain to take this step in support of the health and well-being of its patients and customers.
