NBCnews.com recently featured an article exploring obesity in Asian Americans in response to recent data estimates released in October by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, which for the first time includes Asian Americans. The conclusion of the analysis suggests that the Asian American population has a significantly lower rate of obesity among the various ethnic groups and this observation gives a false impression of the health risks facing the Asian American population, since many of the disorders that are related to excess weight occur at much lower BMI levels in the Asian American population.
