shivam bhargava, BS | Program manager, chronic and infectious diseases

Shivam was born and raised in the Midwest, hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana. He received his B.S. in Neuroscience with minors in Education and Social and Economic Justice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At UNC Chapel Hill, he was a Morehead-Cain Scholar, the very first merit scholarship program established in the United States. He was also named an Ethics Scholar and received the prestigious Donald T. Lysle Chancellor's Award for his service and leadership on campus. Shivam was heavily involved with research at the UNC Neuroscience Center where he conducted an honors thesis surrounding pluripotent stem cells and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He also conducted mental health research with the Heroes Health Initiative at the UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery. 

Shivam has spent a majority of his life dedicated to community service and advocacy. At UNC, he was part of the Asian American Center Leadership Team where he worked with the greater community to help establish the very first Asian American Center at a university in the South. He also served as Executive Director of UNC Holi Moli, the largest student-run event and non-profit that celebrated the festival of Holi through advocacy and philanthropy. His experiences with Asian American advocacy and community organizing have inspired his work at CAHE. 

Shivam started at Asian Health Coalition as a Community-Based Research Coordinator where he led RAIVEN, the center's first ever clinical trial that was focused on vaccinating the Asian population of Chicago for influenza. He later transitioned to a Program Manager on the Chronic and Infectious Diseases team where he leads the All One Community diabetes program as well as the vaccination access program. Shivam works closely with the CID team to help address health disparities that affect Asian and Black Immigrant communities. He is passionate about addressing health inequities through a lens of policy, education, and social justice.

In his free time, Shivam loves playing tennis, running, being outdoors, and dabbling in videography.
