Midwest Viral Hepatitis Conference in Chicago
___________________________________________________________________________

Viral hepatitis is a silent epidemic in the United States, with more than 5 million Americans chronically infected with Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C. Approximately one in ten Asian-Americans is chronically infected with Hepatitis B, and this statistic remains one of the greatest health disparities between the Asian and non-Asian communities in the United States. In addition, Hepatitis C is an emerging health issue in Asian-American communities although it continues to be poorly understood and researched. Recent data shows that hepatitis-associated liver cancer among Asian-Americans is the greatest preventable cancer disparity in the US. The disproportionate rates of viral hepatitis infections among Asian immigrant and refugee communities underscore the critical need for increased prevention strategies and the importance of access to care that guarantees culturally and linguistically competent services for the diverse communities across the nation.

Asian communities in the Midwest have traditionally been under-represented at all levels in public decision-making. In an effort to initiate a crucial dialogue on viral hepatitis in the Asian-American community, the Asian Health Coalition would like to cordially invite you to our Midwest Viral Hepatitis Conference, which will take place on May 11, 2012. This conference is jointly organized by the Asian Health Coalition, University of Chicago and Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. There is no cost to attend this event.
CME/CEU credits available for this conference. Please read on and view our conference agenda for more details.

This conference is supported in-part by a grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Cooperative Agreement Number 1U13PS003389-01. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors/organizers and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
