Asian Mental Health Partnership Initiative
Funded for the next three years by the Office of Minority Health of the DHHS, AMHPI aims to increase awareness among Asian Americans (AA), of mental health as an important aspect of personal and community health.
Cervical Cancer Community Education
The Cervical Cancer Community Education Program for APIA women is a culturally and linguistically appropriate cervical cancer prevention program aimed at increasing the overall rates of cervical screening and vaccination amongst APIA women in the Ravenswood area.
Chicago Asian Community Surveys
Beginning in 2006, AHCI implemented a comprehensive community health needs assessment in Chicago's Chinatown. Modeled after Sinai Urban Health Institutes' (SUHI) Improving Community Health Surveys, AHCI is randomly sampling 400 residents in Chinatown and collecting representative health data that will be directly comparable to local, state, and national health measures.
Cultural Competency Training
Over the past 6 years, AHCI has provided numerous cultural competency trainings throughout Chicago benefiting approximately 700 health care workers and has worked with 25 health care organizations to build capacity for culturally competent health care.
Hepatitis B Education and Prevention Program (HEPP)
The Hepatitis B Immunization Program (HIP) was initiated by the Asian Health Coalition of Illinois in 1997 with the goals of improving hepatitis B immunization rates among Asian and Pacific Islander children from birth to 18 years, raising public awareness of hepatitis risk factors, reducing incidence of liver disease and cancer through early recognition of chronic infection, providing health professionals with up-to-date guidelines for diagnosis and treatment.
Substance Abuse Prevention
The Asian Health Coalition of Illinois (AHCI) was awarded a three-year grant by the state of Illinois to lead the effort for developing and implementing a comprehensive program for substance abuse prevention in the Asian communities in Bridgeport and Armor Square of Chicago
