Protect Yourself from the Flu

The most important way to protect yourself from seasonal flu and H1N1 flu is to follow some simple, common sense steps.
The single best way to protect against the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated each year, starting in September when yearly flu vaccinations usually become available. In general, anyone who wants to reduce their chances of getting the flu should get vaccinated.

Chicago: Seasonal Influenza Vaccination Locations

Get a "seasonal" flu vaccination as soon as is reasonably possible. To get a seasonal flu shot, contact your family doctor or other health care provider. If you do not have a doctor, call 311 to find a City of Chicago vaccination site. From September 14 to October 9, the City will offer seasonal flu shots at no charge, at 45 one-day flu clinics. Additionally, a number of pharmacies and related businesses are or will soon be offering seasonal flu vaccinations. There will be plenty of seasonal flu vaccine, and shots will be easy to get.

Event Announcement: HIV/AIDS & Hepatitis Awareness Day Event

The National HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis Awareness Day is part of the national Banyan Tree Project, a social marketing campaign funded by the CDC to stop HIV/AIDS-related stigma in Asian & Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities.
We live in a world that does not always treat people living with, and at risk for, HIV/AIDS with respect and dignity. In our communities, this type of discrimination prevents APIAs from getting tested for HIV and from getting health care and other services they need to stay healthy. The Banyan Tree Project is about education, acceptance, and access to services.

Grant Updates: Chicagoland Community-Based Organizations Awarded Grant

A collaboration of eleven diverse Chicagoland community-based organizations is pleased to announce the receipt of a $250,000 grant from The Chicago Community Trust for the Partnership for Empowering Research by Chicago Communities about Health (PERCH). PERCH will use novel approaches to support the development of research teams that will conduct community-based participatory research on health related topics.
